Felt Pins

No matter that felt has been around for centuries, it is still contemporary and timeless. These felt flowers would make luscious pins or embellishments on any garment or home dec item. They look so fresh and sweet. Love them!

Are you ready?

St. Patrick's day is a week away, and I haven't even thought about what I want to do. My gal pal Melody Good put a gorgeous shamrock plant on her desk this week and I just love turning the corner and seeing it there. It makes me smile every time.

I thought about sending out some fun treats and found these delectably delicious looking fortune cookies on Amazon.com that are dipped in chocolate and then into teenie weenie shamrock sprinkles. Talk about yum!

Now, wouldn't it be cute to mimic these with beige circles of felt that you shape and glue into faux fortune cookies, then spread dimensional paint onto them like icing, then drop seed beads onto them? Okay, now I've got to make a run to the craft store....see ya!

Do Not Disturb

Nothing is worse than your roommate (or the kids) crashing in on your privacy, especially on Valentine’s Day. This adorable felt door hanger is the perfect signal to tell them, “Do Not Disturb!”

I made mine with scarlet red felt, cut into a shape like a slice of pizza. You’ll need 2 pizza shaped pieces of felt, and your hot glue gun, and gorgeous trims & buttons & ribbon. You just might have it all in your craft stash right now.

Glue two sides of the felt pieces together and poke some stuffing in there and glue it shut. I used a pair of old panty hose (yes, they were clean!) and a handful of lavender. Now you can glue pretty trim along the sides, bows on each corner, and buttons onto the front. I especially love the cameo in the center. Cut two lengths of ribbon 18” long, and glue them to the back of the door hanger at the top. Now you’re ready to tie it onto the doorknob.

So, now your doorknob is all dolled up and it’s time for you to get ready for a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Scary Stuffies

When I made these scary monsters for my glue book, I never realized just how popular these guys were going to be. I had seen them at craftster.org in every shape and size. Some were made from felted wool, cotton prints, and of course some were made by knit and crochet lovers. Mine are cut from felt yardage from the fabric store. You can sew these up, or you can glue them like I did in my new book, The Crafter's Guide to Glue. The big momma is about 18 inches tall and the baby is only 6 inches tall in his mommy's pouch. The pattern is in the book, and I used the same pattern for the baby stuffy as I did for the applique on the scarf. My daughter went nuts over this, so it just might end up in the grandson's Christmas stash. But, it would make a fun Halloween project too, if you used orange and brown and black felt. If you make this for a child, please be sure that all the pieces are sewn so that they won't come off. Now, all these little monsters need are their own names!
