Get Organized

I'm getting organized...AGAIN. I've got my new book to help me out, "Quilters Get Organized" that has tons of projects. I wrote this book to inspire the quilter in me to use fabrics in my creative work space.

Surprise Birthday Crafts

Happy Birthday Chad!
I surprised my nephew during the Pattiewack-n-Crafts segment this morning on CBS Tulsa's Six In The Morning Show. Chad works as a Master Control operator, and he was shocked when he saw his head sticking out of a bouquet of flowers.

The crew at Channel Six looks pretty good
behind their Chad masks!

There were gift bags with Chad face cut-outs, and little Chad faces poked into twinkies, hohos and cupcakes.

The prep for these party favors is suprisingly minimal, considering how much mileage you get from one single image. I found a funny photo of Chad on his myspace page and enlarged it in PhotoShop to an 8 x 10 to print from my computer. For the cupcake pokes, I printed out smaller images and after I cut them out, I taped them to long plastic picks.

For the banner, I cut out the faces and used spray adhesive to adhere them to colored paper, then taped yarn along the backs of the page to string across the set.

LeAnne Taylor is peeking from behind a Chad mask, and what a blast! They are so easy to make. Simply use spray adhesive to adhere the photos to cardstock, cut out, and then tape a large tongue depressor to the back. Don't forget to punch out holes in the eyes to see through. I used a pencil to make the holes.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

It's a perfect day to cover yourself with icing and roll around in candy sprinkles, like Amy Sedaris. I hope you find time to "sprinkle" your day with sweet stuff and huggies and kissies from your fave person today.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Behind the Scenes at Channel Six

CBS Channel Six News Anchor LeAnne Taylor, and I were chatting away before the PattieWack-n-Crafts segment this morning. Look close and you'll see how pretty the Valentine's Day card turned out, with the glass pendant on the front. The pendants were a big hit, and I gave away a bunch of them after the segment. Fun!

The gang is all here, and checking out the Valentine's Cards for a last minute look. That's Casey Norton, Channel Six News Anchor, and Reporter Carina Sonn, along with cameramen and producers. These peeps are just as much fun OFF the air as they are ON the air!

Kevin Martin the Floor Manager, is checking out the set-up for my craft segment along with LeAnne. Kevin is great at his job, keeps us all on time, on our toes, and has fun at the same time. I just love it!

Valentine's Day Candy Crazy

My girlfriend Darsee and I created all of these yummy trees and orbs covered with candies for Valentine's Day. The pic is from the magazine we were featured in. Talk about a sweeeet idea! It was meant to be for a girly Valentine's party, but I think it's great for a sweet sixteen party, too.

Glass Pendants

These are SO easy to make. I'll be showing how to glue the glass stones to catalog pages and scrapbook paper on Channel Six this coming Monday morning. I found the images in an Alloy and an Urban Outfitters catalog. The really killer images are from little catalog pics of t-shirt designs. Cool, huh? To make them more for a Valentine's Day gift, I plan to add heart charms to the necklaces. Oh, and for chicks to give to guys, I think I will make another one with a photo and put it on a keychain. And I will HAVE to make a box and a card too, don't you think?

Jewelry Marathon

Tricia and I had a jewelry marathon, and as you can see, we made over a dozen glass pendants. We just couldn't stop!

It Was HUGE

Can you say HUGE? My cut-out was way big, as you can see with Lauren Johnston, me, and Joan Fee standing behind it. I felt like I was in one of those old black and white B-Movies where the giant woman takes over the town, picking up cars and throwing them into buildings. People were coming by from all over the trade show floor just to see us. Joan's was huge, too. Her demonstration was the talk of the show, as her make-it-take-it was BRA PURSES. You can check out her blog for more details. Joan's Blog

Matchbook Shrines

When Duncan said they were creating life-sized standups of the Designers for their trade show booth, little did we know that they were going to be BIGGER than life. Here is Kathy's stand up, and she is holding one of her amazing shrines. Kathy demonstrated her totally Chicano pop-art style matchbook shrines for her make-it-take-it. I am so dissapointed because I didn't get to hang out at her table and make one. I just imagine there will be another chance to have a crafty meet-up with her at some future craft extravaganza.

Crafty Chicas

I'm talking CRAFTY and CHICA baybeee, at the Duncan booth. That's me with Kathy Cano Murillo and Michelle, her sis-in-law as we did our make-it-take-its. Michelle created a kick-butt altered clip board. She pretty much reigned queen at my table, and had to elbow her way in. There were gals standing in line to snag a seat at my demo, and they walked away with some cool clipboards with attitude.

Trade Show Renegades

The CHA Craft and Hobby Association trade show was amazing! The crafty eye candy made my head spin as I tried to wrap my brain around the gorgeous papers, new jazzy colors of paint, nifty new tools, and fashion crafts everywhere I looked. Being a Creative Alliance with EK Success was a blast as my new partners and I from K1C2 launched our patented invention, called The 1-2-3-D Paper Crafting System, to thousands of buyers from all over the world. You can only imagine how crazy it is to be around so much creativity. That's me holding our imaginative new paper craft system for scoring and cutting a limitless array of dimensional paper crafts.

PattieWack-N-Crafts

This morning was terrific with LeAnne Taylor. She is so much fun, and we laughed our way through the decoupage mannequin and clip boards. The mannequin is a sneaky peak at a project I did for a book for Sterling Publishing, named "Glue It! & Use It!" with over 100 projects. That book is due out in the Fall'07 and I can hardly wait. The 1st draft came today, and now I am proofing it. I'm SO excited! I'll let you know when it is published, as it will be available at Barnes & Noble.

The gang at the Six in the Morning show here in Tulsa, are great peeps to work with, and we have a lot of fun, but when they count us down, it gets to be serious business. LeAnne keeps it light and humorous, and she gets a kick out of all the projects I bring, like mannequins!

I enjoy doing live TV, as this is something I've been doing for at least a dozen years. The CBS Channel Six Tulsa staff is a tremendous team, and we have a HUGE audience here in the tri-state area. I simply love it, and will keep doing it as long as they keep inviting me to be on.

Bible School Memories

People ask me all the time, "When did you become a crafter?" and I tell them that I can't remember, because I've been crafting all my life. I ran across this pic while searching for something else, and just about fell in the floor laughing! It's from WAY back when my daddy was a pentecostal preacher in Dewey, Oklahoma. This is a bible school picture of all of us holding up our bean pictures. We thought they were absolute masterpieces. Yep, that's me with the scary hair in the highlight circle. Don't laugh, or I'll find a picture of YOU and put in on my blog! *giggle*

Bigger Than Life

Isn't this fun? The life-size stand ups have been freaking out everybody at Duncan Crafts offices. They printed and cut out Joan Fee and me for the trade show booth, plus the other designers like Kathy Cano Murillo (the Crafty Chica) and more. The stand-ups are bigger than life, and so real that it's freakie-deakie. Joan sent this pic to me today. It cracks me up!

Altered Clip Boards

My altered clip boards turned out preeeeety cute, I think. These are the make-it-take-it projects that I will be designing at the CHA trade show coming up in Anaheim, California. Buyers from all over the world will be there, purchasing and checking out new arts and crafts and scrapbooking products.

They started out as smoky see-thru clip boards. First I added iron-on rhinestones to the ribbons and tied tons of them to the top. Next I cut out paisley and damask scrapbook papers and decoupaged them onto the clipboards. Then I put iron-ons onto cute fabric and decoupaged it over the paper. Last, I ironed more rhinestones to ribbons and glued them over the designs. Whaddayathink?

My Stand-Up

As I promised, here is one of the poses they took of me for the stand-up at the trade show. I am really excited to be a designer in the Duncan Enterprises booth. We are going to be making altered clipboards with all of their neat new products. I like the "attitude" iron-ons and rhinestones and other fun things that I can use to jazz up dull clipboards. I'll post a pic as soon as I get a couple of them done.

Beaded Bowling Pin

It's sleeting here in Tulsa, as we are caught in the middle of a huge winter storm. Yikes! I've got a pot of chili on the stove, and we are hunkering down in the house for a quiet weekend. We have no fireplace, so Scott and I are hoping that we are in a happy place on Tulsa's electric grid. We have a gas stove, so if worse comes to worse, we can stand around it to get warm. But so far, so good. It's a perfect time for Scott to bury himself on the computer, and for me to CRAFT!

As you can see, I've spread my crafting out on the dining room table. (It's too cold in my basement studio.) I am working on the craft segment for Monday morning on Channel Six. LeAnne Taylor and Carina Sonn asked me to help them decorate a bowling pin! It is for a charity bowling tournament for the Tulsa Big Sisters organization to raffle off. We decided that since it's a bowling "pin" ... that it needs a "pin-up" girl. So, I surfed the web for a cute pin-up girl to print out. I had to add a flippy little skirt, so that she was cute, but covered. I like how it turned out. I also printed out the Six In The Morning logo to put on the pin.

First, I painted the bowling pin with Krylon's plastic paint. It took 3 coats to cover up all the bowling alley marks and the stripe. The next thing I did was decoupage the pin-up girl and the logo to the pin. Then I applied double-adhesive sheets to the entire pin. Whew! What a job. That's as far as I've gotten in this picture. I'll post again when I get further along.

Here is a better look at the bowling pin after I covered it with the adhesive sheets. I used a craft knife to cut all the way around the pin-up girl, so that I can cover her with clear beads as the last step. In this pic, you can see where I've cut angles and peeled the pink sheet away from the bottom of the pin. Then I stuck pre-cut star adhesives on that area so that I can bead them separately.

Oh man! I've started beading as you can see. I decided to do the whole bowling pin in red, white and blue beads. The red beads are at the bottom of the pin, with white in the middle, and blue above the white. I'm putting different sizes of beads on each section for more texture. The little bitty beads don't have holes in them, so they are absolutely beautiful.

I love it! I accidentally got a few stray beads in the wrong sections, so I'm having to flick them out with a craft knife. Scott walked by and laughed at the beads flying around the room. I guess I'll have to get the vacuum out and de-bead the house when I'm finished. Yes, the electric is still on. I have my flashlight nearby in case the ice storm knocks out the electricity.

I really was worried about LeAnne and Carina's autographs showing up after I applied the clear beads over them. But, it looks great. As you can see, I am leaving the beading on the pin-up girl for the last step. When I do the PattieWack-n-Craft segment on Monday, I am going to let LeAnne and Carina peel off the pink sheet that's covering the adhesive and dip it into clear beads for the viewers to see.
I can't wait!

Tada! It's as done as it's gonna get until Monday morning. I am dying to finish beading the girl, but it will just have to wait. This pic is so bad, with the glare. You can barely make out the Channel Six logo. It looks much better in person. I'll have a better photo for you after it is finished. Now I think I'll go have some chili and then watch a movie while the sleet keeps coming down.

Pump It Up

I had a blast with Carina this morning!
On my segment for the "Six In The Morning" show I demonstrated how to craft and work out at the same time. We painted dumbells and wrote motivational words on them like ... Go Girl ... Fun! ... Pump it ... Healthy ... and Vitality. I put grommets on one end of a yoga mat and tied a ribbon onto it to tie it into a roll and to make a shoulder strap. Loved it. I got so inspired that I jumped on my treadmill after I got back home. Maybe I can tighten up that holiday pudding on my belly!

Yipppeeeeee

Holy Cow! I'm getting ready to go to CHA, a huge trade show, and one of the companies that I will be designing for, has asked me for a full-size body shot so that they can use it in the booth! Scary! So, we took a test shot to see what I look like. This was on my front porch, and I was acting silly... Gotta do a serious one tomorrow on a green screen. Today, I've gotta go shopping for the perfect outfit! Yippeeeee! I'll let ya know how it turns out.....

Desk Organizers

As I turned my calendar over to the New Year, I realized I have a completely blank canvas of 365 days to craft my crazy brains out! I want to decoupage soaps, shrinky dink some earrings, make fancy boxes, and create a purse with an 33LP record, just to name a FEW.

Whew! Must craft, must craft, must craft.

But, for now I must concentrate on thinking of my next Channel Six project. After all, the first one for this year is MONDAY!

Meanwhile, Scott and I reorganized our office yesterday. He took all of my wood shelves outside and painted them black, to match my desk. Yes! He built a new shelf above my desk, and now I have a place for these cool striped boxes I made. One is for receipts. (It stays full.) The other is for cards that people send to me. (It stays happily full, too.)
